Six hundred Tala Andig tribal people in the Philippines gathered together Dec 23 to celebrate Christ's birth.
Missionaries Paul and Debbie Howells reported a "huge sense of excitement and a bit of stress" as they helped prepare for the meeting.
Tala Andig believers were busy the entire week preparing for their visitors. Some spent a day hunting pigs to help feed those coming for the meeting. They caught three pigs and stayed up half the night butchering them.
Others gathered branches and flowers to decorate the church while some made a cleaning and cooking schedule so everyone could participate in the preparations.
Bible teachers prepared their messages and planned out the program for the whole day. Song leaders practiced the songs and some believers gathered firewood. It was a unified project where each one did his part.
On the day of the meeting visitors started arriving by 7 a.m. There were 11 motorbikes, with at least three people on each and sometimes up to four riders. As visitors poured in it was a beautiful scene. There was hugging and smiling and even some tears as brothers and sisters long separated came together.
The Word of God was preached by Tala Andig and Higaunon men. And more than 600 believers raised their voices and praised God for being able to meet and worship Jesus together.
