As missionaries Jeremy and Roxy planned their future ministry in Mongolia they were struck by the vastness of the task.
Recently a team of experienced NTM missionaries evaluated their ministry and gave them some tangible objectives to pursue.
"We have been challenged daily by the fact that 'we are in way over our heads," wrote Jeremy. "That position has also shown us the reality that life is about knowing we can't, but realizing and acting upon the truth that God can."
The missionary team identified two areas of concern:
There is a need to draw men to the Lord and encourage them to follow Him. Few men have assumed their role as spiritual leader in the home. The traditional cultural role for men in Mongolia includes hanging out with friends, excessive drinking, watching TV and doing odd jobs now and then. Ben and Andrea Benezette plan to join the Thiessens in ministry soon and Ben will concentrate on building relationships with men through weight-lifting.
A wide cultural and social gap exists between the rich and the poor. For the growth of the church, it is imperative that these groups develop true friendships. The missionaries desire to see the Lord work in the hearts of the Mongolian people.
Pray that God will overcome cultural norms through the power of His Word. Pray too that God will give wisdom to the team in discipling fellow believers to provide spiritual role models for others.
