As missionaries Jeremy and Roxy Thiessen study the Mongolian culture and language they face many obstacles.
One insight they have gained is that it is usual for someone to be considered guilty until proven innocent. This can influence the way the Mongolian people approach things.
Recently a friend was driving along the road and spotted something. It was a purse with $350 and a drivers license.
This scenario can have two alternative solutions in Mongolia.
The first would be to simply keep the money; the second is a little more complicated.
The friend would believe that if he took the money to the police, he would be accused of stealing it and if he returned it to the owner, they would claim to have lost $1,000 rather than just $350. So he would give it to someone else so they could figure out what to do.
Their friend chose the second option.
Pray that the Lord will help Mongolian believers to apply His Word to these situations rather than cultural norms. Pray also for wisdom and patience for Jeremy and Roxy as they shepherd and encourage the believers to make right choices.
