30 KILOS OF POTATO SALAD

A Mongolian man

January 5, 2007

by Dena McMaster

Missionaries Jeremy and Roxy Thiessen spent New Years Eve at a party hosted by the believers in their Mongolian town. Forty adults and 40 children attended, about half of which do not normally come to any believers' meetings.

They served 30 kilos of potato salad prepared by the missionaries, along with fruit salad, soda, milk, tea and sweets. The group sang songs and played volleyball and basketball. Believers shared their testimonies and the Gospel was clearly presented.

While many in Mongolia are interested in learning about Christ, many cultural factors hinder them. Peer pressure and social sanctions are very strong in the culture. Pressure not to "change religions" and a fear of stepping out from the "umbrella of protection" provided by animistic or other religious thinking makes an almost unconquerable wall.

Please pray that God will break down those barriers. Pray for the Mongolian believers who face pressure to turn from Christ. Pray for Jeremy and Roxy to be a light to the lost and an encouragement to the believers.
