Floodwaters from the St. John`s River, just outside NTM USA`s home office today (Aug. 31, 2008)

August 31, 2008

It's been quite an ordeal living within two miles of the St. Johns River that has crested and flooded over its banks after Tropical Storm Fay. But this is nothing compared to what is about to happen in New Orleans!

Please pray with me both for New Orleans with Gustav coming, and for Florida and the East coast as Tropical Storm Hanna heads our way.

  • Pray for God's supernatural hand in diverting Hurricane Gustav from the most populated areas of the Gulf coast.
  • Pray for the safety of the 10% of residents who have stayed in New Orleans.
  • Pray for the levies to hold throughout the city.
  • Pray for Christians to step up and show Christ's love throughout the region -- both to those who are displaced from New Orleans and to those who are experiencing tragic flood damage here in Florida.
  • Pray for many to submit their lives to Christ in the face of unthinkable catastrophes

PERSONAL UPDATE
The Corley family is well and safe, and the house that God provided for us last year has held up and handled the flooding very well. We had a little dampness in our bedroom carpet from day after day of rain soaking through one of our concrete block walls -- but a fan has totally dried that up now.

Our mission offices are just a few feet above the current level of floodwaters -- and a friend of mine in the area had his office floor three foot under water earlier this week. So now we are praying that all the rains from Hurricane Gustav (yes, they are reaching us already here) and also from Tropical Storm Hanna (that should be here later this week), will not cause even more flooding.

In the face of so much uncertainty, it's been a true blessing to see so many respond to our financial needs that were shared in our last update. What makes me smile more than anything is, now that our needs are met we can focus that much more on the task of reaching tribal people with the Gospel. So thank you for your part in what God is doing here and around the world. And please pray with me right now!
