After three months of teaching the missionary team presented the last of 70 Bible lessons -- the death, burial and resurrection of the Christ the Inapangs were falling in love with.
That day, Sept. 21, 2007, "was one of the most exciting days of our lives," wrote Daniel and Elizabeth. "To hear so many testify of their faith in Christ made all the trials and difficulties worthwhile."
When the teaching concluded, the people took a two-week break to work in their gardens. This gave the missionaries time to visit and hear individual testimonies.
"I’m just thinking about going to heaven," said Okampem, a 9-year-old girl. "Jesus died for my sins and now when I die, I can go to His place instead of the place of fire. I’m happy about that."
Elderly Aguange said, "I know I am a sinner. When I was a boy I did so many wrong things. As I got older I went around with lots of different women. I would get into fights. Now I want to thank God for sending Jesus. He paid for my sin on the cross. I am believing on Him."
Ludi, a young mother said, "I don't want to talk. I'm thinking about how bad a sinner I am. I have done so much wrong and Jesus had to suffer so badly. I don't want to look at the pictures. ... It should have been me."
"I am a sinful teenager," said Wili, "and I should go to the place of fire for my sin, but I am not going to. I am not going to because Jesus came and died for my sin. When I die, I am going to go to God."
"Jesus knows the past and the present. When He died, He died for all my sin," said Oremankon, a young unmarried man. "The Law (the Ten Commandments) is our old contract. This one, nobody was able to keep. Nobody was able to go to heaven. When God made the new contract, He Himself sent His own son to pay the debt for our sins. The sins we already did, the sins we will do later, He knew them all and He paid the price. Now we have a road to heaven that is open and all we have to do is sit down in His canoe and trust Him to paddle us to heaven."
Another young man, Martin, said, "Jesus did all the hard work for me. He truly paid for all my sins… even for those next year, till I die and go to heaven!"
"We are not in darkness anymore!" said Nimankar, Matthias Mueller's language helper.
Nimankar's wife, Ram, said, "Now whenever I go work in the garden or to gather greens I am thanking God and praying to Jesus."
"I give God a big thank you for sending Jesus to save me," said Kaspar.
"I have been in my garden looking around me and thinking how good God is," Mpumbar said. "I am so glad about this new contract that God has made. The first contract He made with us nobody has been able to keep. We have all missed God's mark for going to heaven on our own. His new contract is so good. He sent us His own Son and Jesus willingly died for my sin and He paid my sin debt for me. I couldn't do it, but He did. He took big pain for me and He died so I wouldn't have to. I am so happy about that."
Johannes, the village chief, said, "If I see Him I won't be afraid because I'll be going with Him to heaven!"
"I used to worship lots of things," said Andru, another elderly man. "We had idols and some church thinking and our spirit worship. I am leaving that and I am going to lift up only Jesus' name."
