Daily Scripture

"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."

Psalm 37:4

A DAY LATE IS A GOOD THING

The Inapang people are praising the Lord with beautiful singing.

July 7, 2008

by Dena McMaster

When the helicopter landed at the remote village in Papua New Guinea, missionaries Bill and Kelley Housley were greeted by their excited Inapang friends.

"Coming back in via helicopter was a lot less exciting than the 17-hour canoe and 'death-drive' that we took out of the village a few weeks ago," wrote Bill. "Did we mention that we love our helicopter pilots?"

The Inapang believers had expected the missionaries a day earlier, but when they didn't arrive the believers held a meeting to plan for Sunday's service. They decided who would lead in prayer and praise and then assigned several others to take various parts of the meeting. They also decided what lesson in Acts they would review and who would teach the lesson.

When the Housleys arrived, they were thrilled to find that the believers had the meeting all planned out. The missionaries decided not to teach a new lesson but to have the believers carry on with their plans.

"We just sat back this Sunday and watched the same Holy Spirit that works in us … working in them as they did everything on their own." Bill reported. "It was great. Everything went smoothly and there were lots of answered prayers to be grateful for that week and beautiful singing … and we had done nothing to help them. It was so much fun to be back together with them all and encouraging to see how they had handled things while we were gone."

Pray for the Housleys as they shepherd the new Inapang believers. Pray also that the believers will continue demonstrate their growth and maturity.
