"FOOD IS SMALL, GOD'S TALK IS BIG"

Rich and Steve are thrilled to see the Moi falling in love with Jesus!

May 22, 2008

by Dena McMaster

Last Monday another Moi group in Indonesia heard about the birth of Jesus. They were introduced to God's son, the long awaited Redeemer.

There have been many distractions that could have kept them from listening to God's Word, but each time they have made the decision to continue to attend the meetings.

On Monday, someone shot a pig. When someone shoots a wild pig, usually everyone drops whatever they're doing and gathers for an all-day cookout. But this time, when the missionaries went to teach the lesson, the Mois were already there waiting for them. The Mois lives revolve around food and food gathering and pork is one of their favorite feasts.

But Monday they said, "Food is small, God's Talk is big." And missionary Stephen Crockett taught the lesson about the birth of their Savior.

On Wednesday someone shot another pig. At 6 a.m. everyone gathered in Crockett's yard to discuss how they could eat the pig and still hear the teaching. Stephen and his co-worker Rich Brown said that the teaching would go on no matter what. The Mois responded, "That is good because wild pig is small and God's Talk is big."

That day, Stephen was teaching on Jesus' temptation in the wilderness where He refused to turn stones to bread. Jesus said, in Moi style, "God's talk is big and food is small." ("Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4)
"It is so exciting to see the Mois falling in love with the Redeemer," wrote Carolyn Crockett.

Next week the lesson will be about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Pray that this group of more than 50 Moi people will continue to avidly listen to every lesson. Pray too that they will clearly understand God's finished work of Salvation and will trust Him.
