BAGWIDOS ASKING IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

The Bagwido people are asking profound questions.

March 11, 2008

by Dena McMaster

The Bagwido people of Papua New Guinea are hearing Old Testament prophecies and are asking some profound questions.

When missionaries Brian Holmquist and Mark Woodard taught about God foretelling the birth of John the Baptist and how He fulfilled that promise, the Bagwidos began showing interest.

Then when the missionaries taught about the angel of God telling Mary and then Joseph about how Jesus' birth would happen, and fulfilled those promises by sending Jesus, exactly how He said He would, the Bagwidos were amazed.

They believe that Mary is a spirit or type of god so the idea that Mary was just a person, a human lady who God chose to give birth to His Son, is a real revelation and prompted some unusual questions.

  • "When Mary died, did she really die or is her spirit still around with us?"

  • "If Mary was a real lady, why do we still have all these statues and pictures around?"

  • "But Mary, she was born in Adam's family, so then how was Jesus born with a clean inner being?"

  • "We were born in the dark. We know this now, but when Jesus was born and died, did His blood do anything for us or not?"

But some Bagwidos are recognizing the Truth and are exhorting others. "Listen to me you guys," said Jenatin the current leader of their religion, "I am following this teaching and I am finding it hard because this is not what we have been taught for years and years. But listen -- keep listening and following the talk -- because this is true talk."

The village leader, Ismali, then shared with them, "Listen, these guys are not throwing stones at any church groups or ways. This talk is not America's talk or Australia's talk or Brian's talk or Mark's talk. Guys, this is our Great Creator Being's talk."

Pray for Brian and Andrea Holmquist and Mark and Holly Woodard as they teach God's Word and answer the Bagwidos questions.
