DISTRACTIONS INTERRUPT BIBLE LESSONS

Brian Holmquist is meeting with his Bagwido friends

by Patrick Hatcher

Missionaries Mark Woodard and Brian Holmquist face many interruptions and distractions as they teach evangelistic lessons to the Bagwido people of Papua New Guinea.

"A couple of days ago [the village] was hit with the biggest windstorm they have ever had," Mark wrote. "In the middle of the night, houses were shaking and a few blew over or lost parts of their roofs, siding, etc."

Besides the weather, a chance for monetary gain has stolen the village's focus. "Three days ago an Indonesian buyer arrived saying he would like to buy a certain kind of tree bark from the people in the area," Mark wrote. "This proved to be a huge distraction … everyone abandoned work on the teaching house, and their other responsibilities, to go harvest this bark and sell it."

Medical and mechanical interruptions are also affecting the team. Brian Holmquist's wife, Andrea, "had a fairly severe allergic reaction to some medicine … and we found that our freezer has quit working," wrote Mark.

Please pray for the Bagwido tribe as they hear evangelistic Bible lessons in their own language and that missionaries Mark Woodard and Brian Holmquist would be able to focus clearly on the ministry and teaching in the tribe.
