Missionaries and four Uriai translation co-workers will take time from their normal schedules to attend a two-week translation workshop in Papua New Guinea.
Missionary Lisa Kappeler has started to translate portions of the Bible from the book of Genesis into the Uriai language. The workshop will give her and the rest of the missionary team more insights and tools to make the Scriptures clear to the Uriai people.
"Although Lisa is the main translator," wrote missionary M'Liss Spero, "there are other steps that the rest of us will be doing to make sure that the material Lisa is translating actually makes sense to the Uriai people."
M'Liss and co-workers Elias and Jose Struik continue to learn the Uriai culture and language, while the newest team members, Tim and Bekka Peterson, have just begun culture and language study.
Lisa's translation progress has been an encouragement to the rest of the team.
"It's amazing to hear the story of Joseph and his brothers spoken in Uriai," wrote M'Liss. "Lisa's translation helpers are hearing these verses in their own language for the first time ever. The men and women that have been helping Lisa for several hours everyday seem to enjoy their time with Lisa and are seeing the importance of this work.
"Please pray for Lisa and her translation helpers as they work to find the correct words to clearly explain God's Word. Pray that these gifted helpers would not burn out and will continue to be a part of this ongoing humongous work."
Pray too that God will prepare the hearts of the Uriai people who will soon hear God's word in their own language.
