SIMPLE LIFE IS NOT SO SIMPLE

The Siawis live simply, but are thinking deeply.

June 15, 2007

by Jackie Fallis

The Siawi people live a very simple life. Finding food and gathering firewood are the two main occupations of the Siawis. They have only a few books, and these are all books of the Bible translated by missionaries living in the tribe.

This simple, unencumbered lifestyle provides them with time to read and ponder God's Word. This pondering leads to many questions and they are very hungry for answers.

One of the Siawis recently came to the missionaries, confused. He asked missionary Tom Brendle if it was OK to keep sinning since Jesus died and paid for all sin. The Siawi man was hearing this from many people in his village.

Tom was able to explain that yes, Jesus had paid for all sin, but it was not a license to keep on sinning. The Siawi believer's face lit up as what he believed was confirmed. He was no longer confused.

Confusion and disunity are separating Siawi believers. Please pray that as Tom shares the truth from the Bible that believers would hear and walk in it. Pray also for unity among the believers and wisdom in answering questions.
