AN ENORMOUS TASK

Mibu translation seminar

February 5, 2007

by David Bell

The past two weeks have been a time of stretching and growing for missionaries Chris and Angie Walker, but they now "feel better equipped to take on this enormous job of translating God's Word into the language of the Mibu people [of Papua New Guinea]."

"The time out with our consultant has been both humbling and very worthwhile," the Walkers wrote. "It's always humbling to be shown where there are areas that need work, whether it's in our lives or in our work."

Chris and Angie spent ten days checking the book of Acts with translation consultant Linda Krieg. Chris then spent last week working with his Mibu helpers, pushing ahead with more translation work.

"We feel extremely fortunate to have such a team of consultants behind us, who know what they are doing and who care not only about their work but about our work as well, and have the gumption to be kind and honest at the same time," the Walkers wrote.

"Just like in about any job, sometimes the monotony of the day in and day out of continually plugging away at a task can get to you. It was a good re-awakening to realize once again the enormous amount of responsibility that lies with scripture translation; how we need to be constantly relying on God and His wisdom; and the absolute privilege that it is to be involved with such a work."

The Walkers are encouraged and now have clearer direction for the work ahead.

Please pray for Chris as he translates and for Angie and other members of the translation team as they check and recheck their work for content and comprehension.
