‘YOU JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE'

Megilin

January 22, 2007

by David Bell

New believers among the Tobo people of Papua New Guinea, energized by their new-found faith in Christ, are not hesitant to encourage others to believe.

Megilin and his wife are so excited about what Jesus has done for them that others can barely get a word in edgewise. Every time the missionaries go to their house, the couple is talking about the Gospel with whoever is there.

On Thursday missionary Jason Knapp went to Ukawong's house where a large group had gathered. Megilin was part of the crowd at his father's house.

Ukawong was trying to tell his story about another event in the village, but Megilin kept interrupting and telling his story.

"We heard from God's Word the other day that Jesus has washed all our sins away," Megilin said, "and now we are clean in God's sight because all our sins were on Jesus. It is true. You just have to believe it!"

Most of the people in the house got up and left. One old man, who on the last day of teaching was unclear about the Gospel, was among those who stayed. Now, in front of Megilin's unbelieving father, Jason heard him give a very clear profession of faith.

"Thank you God. Thank you, Jesus," Megilin and the old man rejoiced together.

"What a testimony [Megilin] is already to those around him," wrote Jason. "Pray that he continues strong in the faith, and that he will grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."

The missionaries will gather with the believers for their first meeting on Thursday.

"We have told many people the date," Jason wrote, "and they are very excited to hear more of God's Word. They are hungry."
