Daily Scripture

"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."

Psalm 37:4

THE LABORERS ARE FEW

Tobo believer, Tingon

January 8, 2007

by Dena McMaster

Missionary Mike Mikolavich writes, "Pray for more missionaries, for those who will go live in tribes and for support missionaries. The laborers are few! We are in great need of more missionaries."

Signs of progress among tribal works are encouraging but a lack of missionaries may bring some works to a grinding halt. A critical need for teachers in the Islands region may adversely affect many tribal ministries as they find ways to meet the educational needs of their children. There is also a need for missionaries with skills in accounting, maintenance, computer technology and the medical field.

Though there is much yet to be done in Papua New Guinea, many tribal teams are reporting new believers, more Scriptures translated, and believers being discipled and growing in the Lord.

The Tobo missionary team is teaching evangelistic Bible lessons. They are now teaching about the life of Christ. Soon they will teach on the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus and hopefully many will join Tignon, the first Tobo believer.

The missionaries going to minister among the Siar people are making plans to move into a village.

Two Wusuraambya men, Willis and Daniel, are helping missionaries teach God's Word to new believers.

The missionaries to the Dinangats are making some great plans for this year. Rolf and Eli Schlegel are preparing literacy materials and Ralf is translating the Scriptures into the language. Ralf and Eli are planning to begin teaching the Dinangats to read and write in April.

In October the missionary team will begin teaching evangelistic Bible lessons. By this time next year the Dinangat people should be hearing the Gospel message.

There are support needs in each region of Papua New Guinea but there is also a need for more tribal missionaries. Many existing tribal works need more missionaries and other tribal groups continue to ask for missionaries to teach them God's Word.

Pray that God will challenge people to meet the needs for both support and tribal missionaries in Papua New Guinea.
