MADANG, Papua New Guinea: The missionary team among the Mibus is thrilled to see the way God is working in lives.
Missionaries have been meeting once a week with the Mibu believers, taking them back through the Old Testament stories that were initially taught. This time, however, they are pointing out the major themes from a slightly different perspective. The emphasis is Christ's sufficiency.
Next, the missionaries will teach early church history and baptism along with other subjects from the book of Acts.
In the past weeks the Mibus have asked numerous questions about practices they did before they were believers and what to do now. The missionary team is weighing how to address these issues in their teaching.
"It's fun to hear how they talk about what they are learning around the fires in their houses," wrote Chris and Angie Walker.
Their co-worker, Geoff Husa, just got back from a trip to another village and shared about the family he was staying with. In the early morning, before the household knew he was awake, Geoff listened as the father quizzed his children about the things of the Lord, and then led them in a time of singing worship songs.
"These new believers have all the faith and innocence of children, and it is extremely refreshing," wrote the Walkers. "We are so thrilled to see God already raising up willing participants to spread the message of the Gospel."
The first outreach is being planned to start in June. Geoff, and another co-worker, Joey Tartaglia, will be going with about half a dozen Mibu men to another village about a six-hour hike away.
The Mibu men accompanying Geoff and Joey are currently participating in a teacher's training course specifically designed to equip Mibu men to teach others the evangelistic Bible lessons. Gero, Trip, Tima, Kivisi, Devit and Roifo are nervous, wanting to do a good job.
Please pray for the men training to take the Gospel to other Mibu villages.
Pray too for the missionary team as they continue translating and teaching, and as they seek God's wisdom to address different issues.
