"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."

Psalm 37:4

JUST LIKE NOAH'S DAY

Butch and Aaron told Grandma Cecilia the good news.

September 30, 2008

by David Bell

This week the Patpatar people of Papua New Guinea will hear about Abraham, Sodom and Gomorrah and the sacrifice of Isaac as they listen to evangelistic Bible teaching.

Last week, after missionaries Butch Kunzer and Aaron Luse finished teaching about Noah, one man stood to address the listeners. The man had previously opposed the missionaries teaching in the village but now urges his hearers to listen to God's Word.

"The people of Noah's day were sinners," he said, as he began listing their sins. Then he continued, "The people here … are just like the people of Noah's day. We fight, we kill, we do bad things and we don't want to hear God's message. It would be good if we all came to hear this teaching of God's Word because we are just like those people of Noah's day that drowned in the flood."

One person who hasn't been able to come to the teaching is Grandma, the oldest woman in the village who is in very poor health. The missionaries have seen some improvement lately and applauded her Friday as she proudly showed off her strength by lifting her feet 6 inches off the ground while seated on a bench. Their applause made her smile widely.

Since she hasn't been able to attend the teaching, Butch and Aaron have taken the Bible lessons to her. They have taught her the Old Testament stories and shared the Gospel with her.

They have been encouraged with her reception and evident coherence. Though her mumbling is not easy to understand, she seems to be accepting and believing the message.

Please pray that Grandma and the Patpatar people who are hearing God's Word will have a clear understanding of God's salvation and that they will place their faith in Christ.
