THROWING OUT BASKETS IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Aaron sharing God`s message with the Patpatar people.

September 23, 2008

by Patrick Hatcher

The Patpatar people of Papua New Guinea are seeing the world with new eyes as teaching from God's Word affects their thinking.

For the past several weeks they have been listening to evangelistic Bible teaching and seem to be grasping the Truth. One man talked about the difference between the old ways and the new Truth.

"What do we do the next time one of us dies and gets buried up on the mountain?" he said. "Do we scare our kids and tell them the dead spirit is now hovering around?

"We can't now! … Now we know the Truth. Now we can't tell lies to our kids."

Another man said "We have always thought that the clan spirits have always existed and were here from the beginning. But the teaching of God's Word has shown us that God created everything that exists and He is the only one that has always existed.

"We have to throw out our old basket (old way of thinking) and get a new basket (God's way of thinking)."

This week, as the teaching continues through the story of Noah, the Tower of Babel, and Abraham, please pray that Patpatar hearts will be moved toward faith.
