PATPATAR PEOPLE EAGER TO HEAR BIBLE TEACHING

The Luse and Kunzer families are working diligently to be able to share God`s story with the Patpatar people.

May 19, 2008

by David Bell

Missionaries among the Patpatar people of Papua New Guinea are busy writing Bible lessons and preparing literacy materials and want to start evangelistic Bible teaching this summer.

Aaron Luse and Butch Kunzer are in the early stages of writing a total of 72 lessons. Missionaries experienced in writing lessons began checking the first 12 lessons on Friday to make sure they are communicating clearly and covering the key points of presenting the Gospel.

Patpatar men who are working with Aaron and Butch to prepare the lessons are already being affected by God's Word. Upon hearing the story of Adam and Eve trying to cover up their disobedience to God, one man said, "We are just like that."

For the most part the Patpatar people are looking forward to the teaching, though there is one group who say they don't need to hear the lessons.

A few weeks ago, to generate interest in the teaching, the missionaries cooked a pig and lots of rice, and invited several people from the village.

"We did a small skit showing them the need for them to hear God's talk and Butch and Aaron gave speeches about how important it was for them to hear the teaching," wrote Tammy Kunzer. "The response was incredible. For about an hour afterward, several men one by one got up and talked about the importance of the community to help us with our work and to support us."

The people have begun to make plans for erecting a place for the teaching.

After the presentation of the Gospel, Lori Luse and Tammy will begin teaching the people to read and write their own language. "Right now we are in the planning phase and we are collecting materials and getting things ready," Tammy wrote.

Please pray for the missionary team as they continue laboring to give the Gospel to the Patpatar people and teach them to read God's Word.
